I just hope Ashton’s not about to dig his own grave.

    • madsniper

Yep, this is a fine line he’s about to tread.

    • Speedy Marsh

He just made himself their best lead and biggest impediment to a bazillion credits. They’re gonna be glued to him like paparazzi

      • madsniper

He’s got a plan! It’s not great but it’s not nothing!

        • Verence

“I know that kid. Ypu see, he fought his way into States. Three trained soldiers ended up in hospital. I saw what he did in the Deadlands and the only reason I’m still alive is that he didn’t see me. Don’t even try, 500k is not worth it, really.”

          • Nikary

I get the feeling a speech like that would only raise their interest.

          • Sean Long

Or convince 4 or 5 of them to go all “team-up” on Wren.

          • madsniper

            You’re pretty dead on. :)

        • Katy S

Like the “I got an angle” segment of “Heavy Metal”? Hope it doesn’t end up that out of control!

  • http://diem-the-kitty.tumblr.com Diem

    Pffaahaahaaa! “Little Red.”

    • madsniper

I was going to have them suggest “Ginger Jet Li” but I couldn’t figure out how to justify their knowing who Jet Li is. :)

      • http://medlei.wordpress.com/ Talimee

Too bad. It does have a nice ring to it. =)

      • Oscar Rojas

Same way that Wren knows about the “Island of Dr. Moreau.”

        • madsniper

Classic novels aren’t going away, but it’s less easy to accept people of the future knowing specific actors/martial artists. Bruce Lee? Absolutely. Maybe even Chuck Norris. But I can’t make a statement about any others, and furthermore it would have been distracting. There are more important things happening n this scene than the implications on the state of Kung Fu movies. (Which, btw are doing just fine, this is totally coming up in book 4)

          • safyrejet

The world will never forget Chuck Norris.

          • Oscar Leigh

Bullshit, Chuck Norris would be forgotten over Jet Li. He’s over-hyped and a washed-up has-been who did repetitive simplistic roles.

          • safyrejet

*Looks over Jet Li’s roles* repetitive, check. Simplistic, in character, check, but where some of Norris’ were “simplistic” in the same manner, both have been technically difficult, hinging on their hard trained skill as fighters, the acting range has been broader for Norris. One got stuck doing several 80s movies & the other with several foreign fighting movies, so they’re about even in the level of goofy roles. The overhyped meme for Norris doesn’t begin to capture his real persona, but he takes it with good humor. Has – been? Everyone who gets old enough & retirees from regular acting could be called a has – been, give Jet Li time.

Look I don’t necessarily begrudge Lu, he’s an amazing artist, huge respect for the guy, but don’t use him to bash Chuck Norris .

          • madsniper

i meant more like the joke isn’t going away. :)

          • Oscar Leigh

Don’t worry, I won’t start a flame war or anything :). And yes, maybe Chuck Norris will be remembered more than he should because of the internet culture around him.

          • Oscar Rojas

That’s actually a really good point.

  • Dr. Shiny

I get the feeling that this isn’t going to go over as well as Ashton thinks it will.

    • Sean Long

Maybe he’s smart enough to only ask “… please, take him ALIVE, rather than dead”.

A live Wren can be rescued. A dead one, not so much.

      • Nikary

Except if Ash doesn’t convince them to leave “Little Red” alone, they won’t give Wren a chance to be rescued.

  • Speedy Marsh

Aaaand, Big Red earns himself a spot on the board. Or, at least a chair to be tied to, while his “friends” try to beat information out of him.

    • madsniper

I even reddened up his hair a little, heh. (It was reading a pukey green before. :/)

      • Speedy Marsh

I wonder if Ashton and Wren are identical twins. Maybe zygote Wren (and who knows how many others) were stored in liquid nitrogen, while Ashton was put into an artificial womb. Years later, after Ashton escaped, Wren was grown as his replacement. (There could be more Wrens, or any of the GECOWs for that matter, out there somewhere)

I also have a theory that you gave us a clue about Winter’s connection to Wren, in their names. Winter is Wren’s original personality, because “Wren” is “Winter”, when “Winter” is all mixed up, and has totally lost “it”.

        Winter – it = Wner
        Wner, mixed up = Wren

I know you can’t confirm any of this, but I just thought they were really interesting ideas.

        • madsniper

          Arg! *flails impotently
          But great stuff here! 8D

          • Speedy Marsh

Sorry. That must kill, not being able to respond.

Thanks for posting the fan art! https://whitenoisecomic.com/2016/03/22/fanart/#disqus_thread I really need to learn to draw, so I don’t have to cut & paste other people’s creations. Although… your art is so good, it deserves to be used again.

The hand drawn fan art is really good. I hope they draw more.

          • madsniper

My pleasure! Thanks for making it!

          • Speedy Marsh

You’re welcome. It was a lot of fun. The only problem is that now I’m gonna be expecting to see Winter all yellow and covered in spots. :)

Is there a story behind the barking dog in the picture in panel 1?

  • Verence

    “Nothing personal, Wren, just business.”

  • safyrejet

It doesn’t mention the tail…Government paperwork. There’s no checkbox for “tail” so they can’t figure out how to mention that detail.

    • Speedy Marsh

Yeah, you’d think they’d classify him as “Tailed and Dangerous”

      • safyrejet

Bonus: He’s also armed and dangerous. And legged and dangerous. And nosed and dangerous….

  • KaTaai

Hello everybody, sadly I have to wait for this comic now but I am looking forward to read it as it comes out :)

  • Wrendragon

This page: In which Ashton opens his mouth and inserts both feet.

  • Raymond Eric Dannelly

“….he hates water. Likely head as far from the ocean as he can get. So we should all start looking in the other direction.”

    • madsniper

      *has Signs flashbacks

      • Speedy Marsh

“Swing away Merrill. Merrill… swing away.”

  • Robert Nowall

Is he rising to defend Wren…or to claim the right to hunt him down first?

  • Byzantine2

    NOOO I caught up.

Also, going after Wren is a death sentence. D doesn’t even come close.

  • Amanda

“Everyone stop I know him, he’s my son with an alien. Before anyone asks I was not probed.”

  • Oscar Leigh

Ashton: “Hmm, you know, I feel like getting grilled for information by that chick with the guitar. Let’s hope she likes to tie people up. I wouldn’t mind getting caught by her.” :)

    • madsniper

Her song said she has whips and chains!

      • Oscar Leigh

In the words of Rhianna; “sticks and stone may break my bones, but chains and whips excite me.” :)

  • Oscar Rojas

In the future will we see more of the world outside of the states?

    • madsniper

Yep! Beginning of chapter 11 takes us elsewhere. :) The world is about to crack open in a big way.

      • Oscar Rojas

        Sounds cool.

    • Verence

Post-apocalyptic Russia. Snowy wasteland with mutant bears.

      • Nikary

I hope that at least the post-apocalyptic winter gives enough snow for skiing.

        • Verence

Just remember: don’t eat the purple snow.
